TNI soldiers have evacuated victims of flood that submerged some areas in Banjar District, South Kalimantan, from Tuesday.

"Many residents also save their belongings. Members have been dispatched to help because the flood suddenly hit today after hevy rain," said Commander of 1006/Banjar Military Command Lt. Col. Inf. Imam Muchtarom in Martapura, Tuesday.

Riam Kiwa River overflowed due to rain all day long and caused flooding. The affected areas included the subdistricts of Pengaron, Astambul and Tunggul Irang, Martapura.

Imam asked people not to panic but remain vigilant considering that runoff from the higher places, such as Paramasan Sub-district and Sungai Pinang Sub-district still threatens.

"I instruct the rank of Koramil (the sub-district military) to go down the field to help residents and coordinating with Muspika (sub-district leadership) and BPBD (disaster agency) for handling the flood," he said.

Commander of Pengaron 1006-02 Military Command Peltu (Assistant First Leutenant) Eko who was with members at the flood site Pengaron Village RT 02 said the water level reached 1 meter from the riverbank.

"About 15 houses were submerged quite badly. We keep patrolling and search residential areas if there are residents who need evacuation aid," he said.

Meanwhile, the Banjar Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) team has distributed logistics for the emergency kitchen in Rantau Nangka Village, Sungai Pinang.
