The Religious Affairs Ministry handed over aid worth Rp1 billion, collected through donations from the state civil apparatus, to assist victims of the Mount Semeru eruption in Lumajang District, East Java.
The assistance was handed over by Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas at the ministerial office here on Thursday.
"During the opening of the 76th Charity Day event, we also provide assistance to our brothers and sisters, victims of the Mount Semeru eruption in Lumajang," he remarked.
The ministry's assistance will be handed over to Fesal Musaad, head of the disaster impact mitigation task force at the Religious Affairs Ministry, which would then be allocated to the Lumajang Disaster Mitigation Task Force.
Based on data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, 43 people lost their lives in the eruption of Mount Semeru. Meanwhile, 104 people were injured, comprising 32 seriously injured and 82 moderately injured.
Qoumas expects that everyone's good deeds, in the form of donation, would be beneficial for the victims in need.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency has ensured that emergency response services for Mount Semeru disaster victims in Pronojiwo Sub-district, Lumajang District, East Java, were conducted properly.
"Apart from monitoring the current conditions from the north of the damaged Gladak Perak bridge, optimal emergency response services to the community are also a major concern," the acting head of the disaster data, information, and communication Center at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, Abdul Muhari, stated.
Muhari noted that the Gladak Perak bridge, connecting Lumajang and Malang, had been destroyed due to the impact of Mount Semeru's hot clouds and avalanches.
This condition hindered the activities of residents of two cities, especially in the Pronojiwo and Candipuro sub-districts. On the other hand, logistics and refugee handling efforts have gone smoothly so far, especially in Candipuro Sub-district.
"Hence, during today's visit, the head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency also wants to ensure that services for the affected people in Pronojiwo Sub-district are also conducted optimally," he remarked.
