The automotive modification industry is projected to grow well due to increasing interest among the youth in modified vehicles, president director of Central Indonesia Motorcycle Association (IMI), Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet), has said.
At a Motorbike Show here on Saturday, Soesatyo, who is also chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), said that 80 percent of youth preferred a modified vehicle.
This is supported by the demographic bonus that Indonesia will reap, he informed. In 2045, it is estimated that the Indonesian population will rise from the present 270 million to more than 380 million.

Of the total figure, 70 percent will be from the productive age category and 60 percent will be women, he noted.
Such a condition would offer quite a large market opportunity to the automotive industry, Soesatyo expounded.
"If we are observing at the segment, women or youth nowadays tend to choose fashionable vehicles. There is a certain dissatisfaction in choosing standard vehicles which is why they want to change their appearance," he noted.

There has also been a spike in four-wheeled vehicle sales of 67 percent with 703 thousand vehicles sold from January to October, he informed.
"This means that, amid our unfortunate circumstances, our health, economy, and entire lifestyle changes, but transactions and economic growth remain," he remarked.
He also lauded private enterprises that have been holding modification events saying such events would encourage entrepreneurs to improve their skills in vehicle modification.

"We still require many vehicles, especially since I observe that the choice to hold this two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicle modification exhibition is a correct one," Soesatyo affirmed.
Moreover, he said that IMI is working to ensure road permits can be issued for modified vehicles so they can be used on highways, in accordance with the traffic law.
"What is most important is that we encourage our younger generation to have their works be able to roam the street and their safety guaranteed," he expounded.
