PT Borneo Indobara (BIB) is building a floating mosque in the area of Pagatan embankment, Kusan Hilir Sub-district, as a place of worship as well as an icon of religious tourism in Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan.

"The construction of the mosque will cost around IDR25 billion. If we have no obstacle, the work will be completed in 2023," said the company's Senior Manager of CSR and External Affairs Dindin Makinudin here on Wednesday.

The floating mosque is built with the concept of two-storey main building. The first floor will be used as a multipurpose room, classroom, and secretariat room. While the second floor is a place of worship with the capacity of about 500 worshipers.

The construction uses PT BIB's CSR fund with a multi-year system. The program has been synchronized with the 2022 RPJMD. The determination of the area and direction of the Qibla has been coordinated with the local government and set in conjunction with the groundbreaking ceremony in March 2021.

The construction of the floating mosque will then be handed over to the local government with the hope that the use of the building will be maximized and the economy in the surrounding area will increase and this will become a fairly good potential for regional income.

"Currently, the work is being carried out is the lower structure and breakwater. It is hoped that in 2022 the construction of upper floor structure to begin," he said.

According to him, the construction of the floating mosque has gone through mapping carried out by the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), IPB, and UI during the process of compiling baseline data for PT BIB's PPM.

Tanah Bumbu has natural resources in the form of beautiful beaches and has the potential a tourist attraction.
