Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Member of Banjarmasin Assembly (DPRD) asked the local government to review modern minimarket licensing for they are very flourishing and feared to cause small and medium enterprises (SMEs) dying.


Chairman of Banjarmasin's DPRD Iwan Rusmali here on Wednesday said the mushrooming of minimarkets in this area, judged unmanageable even allegedly rammed local regulations.

In Perda (local regulation) No. 20 of 2012 concerning the structuring and development of traditional markets, shopping centers, and modern stores, one of the article mandates the existence of a modern market or modern shopping must be spaced at least 500 meters from traditional markets.

He explained, the government set market and modern shops shall take into account population density, population growth, the development of new settlements, accessibility of the area (traffic flow), availability of infrastructure, and the existence of traditional markets and stalls or shops in the surrounding area smaller than a market or modern store.

"You can see, is the presence of modern minimarket mushrooming here appropriate in the regulations. It needs to be reviewed," he said.

the Golkar politician said he was concerned with the fate of SMEs or small stores/shops belonging to the community certainly unmatched, even dying due adjacent to the modern shopping.

"Though the government itself struggling to raise SME program, but in reality in the field do not match, judging from many minimarkat being allowed to stand, even down to the village," he said.

Iwan stated very appreciated Surabaya government measures who dare to forcibly shut down hundreds of minimarket because they did not have permission and their existence violate local regulations.
