Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Regional Head of Operations II Land and Forest Fire Control BKSDA South Kalimantan Zulkarnain said small rivers in the province began to dry that threaten the fulfillment of clean water.
Zulkarnaen here on Monday revealed the results of monitoring conducted by BKSDA at some areas, such as in the area of Kintap Puri, rivers began to dry.
"People now rely on major rivers, which discharge water also began to decrease," he said.
According to him, these conditions occur, due to the impact of El Nino that hit South Kalimantan with medium category.
Compared to 2014, he said, the current weather in South Kalimantan far more extreme. Last year El Nino that struck this region in in the category of weak.
"This year people should be really careful, because in 2014 the impact of El Nino was weak alone, fires in South Kalimantan reached more than 3,000. With this hot weather conditions means that vigilance must be improved," he said.
Meanwhile, water shortages are now beginning to hit the coastal residents of South Kalimantan, because all the rivers around the region began salty due to sea water intrusion.
"All the water tastes bitter, so residents are forced to buy water that is transported from outside the area that the price is quite expensive," said Kamah, resident of Sungai Musang.
The price of a jerry can of river water that has not intruded, she said, reaching Rp3 thousand, because residents have to fetch water in the river using motorboats from Sungai Tabuk, a distance far enough.
