Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of Correctional Division of South Kalimantan Regional Office of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights Harun Sulianto revealed that the excess capacity of Teluk Dalam Correctional Institution (LP) in Banjarmasin to be overcome.
"The Teluk Dalam LP is a number two densest LP in Indonesia, because it's over capacity reaches 650 percent," he said on Wednesday.
According to him, actually the LP can only be occupied by about 400 inmates, but in fact has now been filled with 2,400 prisoners.
While the removal of most of the inmates to another prison in the district or city difficult, because the average LP in regions experiencing similar density.
"So we try to rebuild a common LP in Banjarbaru, targeted to be operational next year," he said.
According to him, the newly constructed LP will be able to accommodate about 900 inmates, and very useful to reduce the density in LPs experiencing over capacity.
Harun said, Minister of Justice and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly plans to look directly at South Kalimantan circumstances, in particular the Teluk Dalam LP in Banjarmasin, this week.
