The General Hospital of Haji Dhamanhuri Barabai, Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District, is currently experiencing a shortage of nurses handling COVID-19 due to the surge of patients in the recent days.

Director of Barabai Hospital dr. Nanda Sujud Andi Yudha Utama said that the hospital is now in the condition of lack of service and infrastructure. "At the time of red zone now, there are about 40 to 50 COVID-19 patients entering the hospital per day," he said.

In fact, he said in front of the council members during the COVID-19 Task Force meeting at the local DPRD building on Monday, the availability of special rooms for COVID-19 patients was only 88 beds and 86 ordinary isolation rooms on the second floor.

Of the two floors of isolation place, there are only 44 nurses who work in shifts per day. "So one nurse treats 10 patients," he said.

Even then, if all of them are present. Sometimes some of them are also infected and are undergoing self-isolation. "With this condition, the service is not optimal," he said.

The hospital has discussed with the HST government to find a solution. He hopes that there will be volunteers who will help.

He also added that on average patients infected with COVID-19 who enter the hospital are in critical condition, so they need maximum treatment.

"With the need of around 80 oxygen cylinder per day, Alhamdulillah (thank God) no patients died due to lack of oxygen," he said.
