Tanjung, South Kalimantan (antaranewsKalsel) - PT Agri Multi Lestari builds a cattle farm in the village of Cakung, Murung Pudak, Tabalong, to increase production because the number of cattle has not been balanced with the needs of meat in the local community.


Project Manager of PT Agri Multi Lestari Suwandi here on Wednesday said the initial phase of development of cattle breeding area of ​​53 hectares in the village of Cakung, principle permission has been submitted to the Government of Tabalong.

"We see the potential of fodder in the village of Cakung enough support for the development of cattle, so that it can increase the production of beef in South Kalimantan," he said.

The number of cattle that will be developed from 400 to 1,000 animals with a target production of 200 to 500 cattle per year through artificial insemination (AI). Artificial insemination is a form of reproductive biotechnology in an effort to increase production and productivity of cattle with the ultimate target of farmers' income increase.

Head of Tabalong Livestock and Fisheries Agency Fahrial Fuaddy said the current level of needs of beef cattle in the district is quite high, ie 1,887 heads in 2013 and predicted to 2,170 heads in 2015. While the cattle population up to June 2014 was 4,272 animals, but only about 13 percent cut decent of male cattle.

Tabalong Livestock and Fisheries Agency has also implemented a program of integration of oil palm-cattle, namely beef cattle development by utilizing waste of oil palm which is pretty much in the region as a breakthrough to meet the needs of beef cattle.
