South Hulu Sungai (HSS) Regent H. Achmad Fikry said he wanted no HSS residents to live in uninhabitable houses when he symbolically handed over assistance from the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSRS) in Bariang Village, Kandangan Sub-district.

"This (central government) assistance is provided for low-income people," said Head of Public Housing, Settlement, and Environment Agency Ronaldy P Putra Friday (July 2, 2021), when submitting the report at Bariang Village Office, attended by heads of government agencies, head of Bank Kalsel chapter Kandangan, Kandangan Sub-district head, chief of Bariang Village, and beneficiaries.

HSS was allocated 134 houses, namely 15 each for Bangkau, Sungai Paring, Bariang, and Baluti villages, then 20 each for Sungai Kupang and Lungau villages, and 19 for Amawang Kiri Village.

The beneficiaries must have their own lands, have families, occupy uninhabitable houses, and have never received assistance from the government before.

They have low income, a maximum equal to Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP), and are independently able to complete BSRS activities.

Last year, the value of aid was IDR17.5 million and in 2021 it has increased to IDR20 million per house.

"This program has been going on since 2017 and has built about 1,369 housing units. It is a tiered program and distributed per two villages, with the provision that the next village will only receive aid if the two previously villages reach 30 percent under construction," he said.

Regent H. Achmad Fikry said since the beginning of his tenure, housing assistance, whether programmed through the PUPR Agency, or Social Agency, or other offices, was solely because of his intention dan desire that no HSS residents would live in uninhabitable houses.

"Regardless of the type of assistance, the important thing is for the convenience of the community," he said.

He also reminded the public about the development of COVID-19 in HSS. Some development programs may be delayed due to austerity and diversion of budget for the outbreak.

Of course, the community must participate in halting the increase of the number exposed to COVID-19, so that the budget of development to recover to its original state. This can be done with the self-awareness to help prevent the spread of the virus and carry out mass vaccination.

"Now one of the obligations of the recipients of every aid must be vaccinated," he said.
