Indonesia recorded 6,177 COVID-19 cases, 167 deaths, and 6,362 recoveries in the 24 hours ended Thursday, according to the Task Force for COVID-19 Handling.


The country's total COVID-19 case tally has reached 1,589,359, with the death toll recorded at 43,073, and total recoveries at 1,438,254 since March, 2020, when the government announced the country’s first infections, it reported.

The number of suspected cases stood at 58,328 on Thursday, while active cases increased by 352 to reach 108,032. Meanwhile, as many as 74,583 specimens were tested for the virus, the task force disclosed.

Jakarta reported the highest number of fresh cases at 1,330. West Java, which added 1,216 cases, was next.

Jakarta is still leading in the cumulative COVID-19 case count, with 396,109 infections reported so far, followed by West Java (264,288) and Central Java (176,873).

The capital city has also recorded the highest number of recoveries at 382,546, followed by West Java (232,688) and Central Java (146,217).

East Java province has recorded the highest number of deaths at 10,313, followed by Central Java (7,564) and Jakarta (6,450).

According to the task force, as many as 5,713,404 Indonesians have received both doses of the coronavirus vaccine as of Thursday.

The total number of people receiving two doses of the vaccine increased by 144,547 on Thursday compared to the previous day. The number of second dose recipients rose by 118,867 on Tuesday, the task force reported.

Meanwhile, the total number of Indonesians who have received the first dose of the vaccine has reached 10,596,373.

The COVID-19 Task Force is targeting to inoculate 40,349,049 people in the second phase of vaccinations.

Indonesia has mostly used the COVID-19 vaccine developed by China's Sinovac and some AstraZeneca vaccines received through the COVAX Facility for its vaccination program.
