Head of Banjarmasin Health Agency Machli Riyadi said that the agency is carrying out the COVID-19 vaccination program for 2,030 teachers throughout the city in Ramadhan 1442 Hijriyah.

"Today (April 14, 2021) and tomorrow (Thursday, April 15) Health Agency is vaccinating 2,030 teachers in Banjarmasin," he said here, Wednesday.

The locations for the inoculation of thousands of teachers were divided into several places, namely at state junior high school SMPN 7, SMPN 3, SMPN 1, and the Education Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) in West Banjarmasin.

"With the distribution of locations in several places in sub-districts in the city, we hope the target can be met," said Machli Riyadi.

He also monitored the vaccination of the teachers, so far their participation is quite good.

Moreover, he said, the Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) has also conveyed the vaccination law during the Ramadhan fasting does not break the fast.

"So we ask all teachers to take part in this program, in order to maintain health, especially to increase body's immunity to fight against the virus," Machli Riyadi explained.

According to him, with all teachers getting vaccinated, it is hoped that face-to-face learning can be implemented later.

"Even though you have been vaccinated, you should still maintain strict health protocol," he said.

So far, COVID-19 cases in Banjarmasin continue to rise. The South Kalimantan Health Office reported on Wednesday an additional of 85 cases to bring the total to 8,253 cases in the city.

However, the recovery from COVID-19 in Banjarmasin was also balanced with the addition of 85 on the same day bringing the total to 7,136 recoveries, while 194 people have died.
