Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalimantan) - The Indonesian government targetted to build 1,000 innovative fishing villages in next four years, said Deputy of Relevance and Productivity Science and Technology Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Agus Puji Prasetyono in Kotabaru,
Tuesday.

"At this early stage minimal technologies will be developed in the Innovative Fishing Village and in the future maximal technology will be display," said Agus when opening "Nusantara Expo 2014" in Kotabaru.

Through the innovative Villages, government will undertake strategic steps to develop fisheries and marine technology, which is the ultimate objective to improve the welfare of fishermen. Government will focus on applying modern fishing and aquaculture technologies.

Venturing the Innovative Fishing Village program, Village Sarang Tiung, North Pulaulaut in Kotabaru, designated as a Innovative Fishing village and will be proclaimed by the President Joko Widodo on December 15, 2014.

"Until now fishermen in Kotabaru still used traditional fishing, so naturally they are still lagging well-being," said Regent Kotabaru.
