Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Brigjen Machfud Arifin said, 1,254 cases of narcotics and drugs abuse uncovered.


"The number of drug cases were successfully revealed by Polda (regional police) and the resort police (Polres) throughout South Kalimantan from January to November," he said at Banjarbaru Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

He, who was accompanied by the Director of Narcotics Police Chief Kombes Joko and Banjarbaru Resort Police Chief AKBP Harun Yuni Aprin, said the number of suspects arrested is 1,599 people.

While drug evidence seized from the hands of suspects namely 11.058 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 583 grams of marijuana, and 21, 281 pills of ecstasy.

"A small portion of the evidence seized, brought to the court, and then completely destroyed so as not to be abused and passed around," he said.

He explained that the status of suspects arrested are large dealer and dealers, including intercity drug dealers to interislands network of Indonesia.

The punishment for all perpetrators of both big dealer and dealer is expected to be heavy to give deterrent effect. Moreover, their actions have damaged the nation's generation.

"We hope that the punishment of all perpetrators are heavy but that requires prosecutors and judges to decided that they are the one who will determine the sentence," he said.

Kombes Joko added, the number of cases handled increased sharply compared o last year, including evidence seized from the perpetrators. "Crystal meth is double and ecstasy increased seven times," he said.

The increasing number of cases and suspects and evidence can not be separated from narcotics unit officers fighting actively in uncovering cases.
