The Kotabaru Custom and Excise Office destroyed illegal goods in the form of 500,028 cigarettes without excise worth IDR466 million, with an estimated state loss of IDR215 million more.
The destruction at the courtyard of Mahligai Pemuda Building in Kotabaru was conducted by the head of the office Bambang Lusanto Gustomo together with the Kotabaru Regional Secretary H Said Akhmad and Forkopimda (Leadership Communication Forum), Thursday.
Bambang Lusanto Gustomo said the circulation of illegal goods has violated Article 29 paragraph (1) Law Number 11 of 1995 Jo (in conjuction with) Law No 39 of 2007 concerning excise.
”The destroyed are state-owned goods in the form of cigarettes which do not have excise duty and could harm the state,” he said.

H Said Akhmad appreciated and supported the right step taken by the Kotabaru Custom and Excise Office in order to enforce the law.
He said that revenue of tobacco (cigarette) from the central and regional government revenue-sharing funds contributed quite a lot to the development of Kotabaru District.
"Tobacco (cigarette) is not subjected to excise can destry the economy of traders who obey excise regulation, and if this is neglected will become a problem and inflicted state loss," he said.
