The Banjarbaru City Legislative Council (DPRD) approved the appointment of Deputy Mayor Darmawan Jaya Setiawan as mayor after Mayor Nadjmi Adhani passed away in August 2020.

The Banjarbaru DPRD Speaker Fadliansyah here on Monday said the agreement was agreed upon in an internal meeting of the DPRD which was attended by 25 members, so it had fulfilled the meeting quorum.

"All members of the council agreed on the proposal to appoint deputy mayor to be mayor, so the process is followed up by submitting a recommendation letter to the Governor of South Kalimantan and forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs," he said.

The DPRD's proposal was made to fulfill the term and conditions stipulated in Law No. 10 year 2016 concerning the appointment of deputy mayor to become mayor for the 2016-2021 term.

"So, the DPRD's proposal meets the requirements stipulated in Law No.10, then the procedure is continued to the governor and the Ministry of Home Affairs who will issue a decree to appoint the mayor," he said.

It is hoped that the process of correspondence from the Governor of South Kalimantan to the ministry to take place quickly, so that the decree of appointment is issued before the mayor's term ends on February 17, 2021.

Since Banjarbaru Mayor (late) Nadjmi Adhani passed away on August 10, 2020, the post of mayor has been filled by Deputy Mayor Darmawan Jaya Setiawan as the acting mayor.
