The government has involved the environmental group of Forum Komunitas Hijau (Green Communiy Forum/FKH) Banjarmasin in greening the green belt of Tapin dam in an effor to conserve the water catchment area of the dam in Pipitak Jaya Village, Tapin District.

The involvement of FKH Banjarmasin to build the green belt was contained in the signing of MoU by the Public Works and Housing Ministry's Hall of River Area (BWS) II, FKH Banjarmasin, and the Association of Public Works Retirees, said FKH Deputy Chair Mohammad Ary to ANTARA, Sunday.

According to him, FKH was previously invited to attend the National Partnership Movement (GNKPA) which was focused in Solo and in all areas that have dams.

"FKH as a community organization, one of which is a medium for river-care community,  was trusted to green the green belt which function as an environmental conservation, maintaining the sustainability of flora and fauna life around the Tapin dam," he said.

The dam was started to be watered since October 2020 and the water is estimated to be full by the end of March 2021. If it is fully functional, the dam will provide raw water for PDAM with a capacity of 500 liter per second, to reduce flooding 107 m3 per second, water conservation (ground water recharge), and to become tourist destination in the Tapin River Basin Area (DAS).

The dam, which began construction in 2015 at a cost of IDR1.058 trillion, will also be source of water for 3.30 mega watt of hydroelectric power (PLTA), he added citing information from the BWS II.

"At first I imagine the area of dam was as vast as PM Noor dam, it turn out the main area submerged is not large, but extend the flow upstream," he added.
