The Banjarmasin Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) asked residents to be aware of wild snakes entering their houses, because by the end of the year these reptiles will naturally look for a place to hatch eggs.

"So far we have evacuated nine snakes from residents' houses," said Head of the Banjarmasin BPBD HM Hilmi here, Monday.

To quickly respond to residents' report of the threat of snakes, the agency has formed Animal Rescue Team consisting of BPBD, Animal Healt Division of the Fod Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), and animal police K-9 of the South Kalimantan Provincial Police.

Hilmi, who is the coordinator head of the team, said that this month the team had secured two mothers and for cubs of a cobra.

"In addition were three phytons, two adults measuring five meters, and one snake child," he said.

According to him, the phenomenon of snakes entering the residential areas often occurs every year and culminates at the end of the year when egg hatch and snake children roam for food such as small frogs, crickets, and lizards around the house.

BPBD also shares tips to the people so the snakes do not enter the house, namely cleaning the house, do not let piles of items, give fragrance to carpet, cut grass and weeds, cover soil cracks, and do not panic when seeing snakes.

Hilmi appealed if there are snakes that are dangerous or venomous such as cobra or other types of snakes immediately report to the team.

He explained, according to Banjarmasin Mayor Regulation No. 657 year 2020 the BPBD is part of the Animal Rescue Team whose task is saving human lives that are threatened by animals.

"Banjarmasin residents who need animal handling please contact the BPBD at 0831-5986-1450 or 0821-5391-2194. All are free of charge and officers have expertise in animal handling," he said.
