Acting Governor of South Kalimantan Rudy Resnawan said the delay in treatment had triggered the death of COVID-19 patients, while they were not aware of it.
"It turn out that many of COVID-19 patients were not aware, because they do not understand the symptoms. They were being late to be treated, when admitted to the hospital," he said in Banjarmasin, Friday.
Rudy was speaking in response to the high mortality rate of COVID-19 patients in South Kalimantan. Most of the victims who died had comorbidities, so they were vulnerable when exposed. They had histories of chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and chronic lung disease.
Rudy reminded the public to be more open to their health and their families' health during the pandemic, for the reason that the symptoms of coronavirus to each person are different, even without symptoms.
The government therefore is encouraging those who have confirmed positive, but have mild or no symptoms, to undergo treatment in the special quarantines have been prepared. It is more guaranteed here, where doctors keep monitoring compared to independent isolation at home without supervision by health workers.
"We are trying our best to lower the death rate which is now at 3.97 percent or 447 cases of the total confirmed positive cases (data on Thursday, 15 Oct)," he said.
