Chairman of the Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (GAPKI)'s South Kalimantan chapter Eddy S Binti said that GAPKI and South Kalimantan Provincial Police (Polda Kalsel) have sign MoU to seriously mitigate forest and land fires.
He said this MoU affirmed the cooperation between GAPKI and South Kalimantan Police on improving the security system and enforcement in the working environment of GAPKI members plantation companies, by taking into account existing laws regulations.
"This agreement serves as a guideline to optimize the mitigation of forest and land fires in South Kalimantan," he said in Banjarmasin, Thurday (Oct 15,2020).
Their agreements cover synergy, coordination, communication, system, facilities and infrastructure, human resources improvement, security assistance, request of data or information, obligations, powers and duties, socialization, monitoring, evaluation, and others.
GAPKI's role is providing facilities and infrastructure for prevention and control of forest and land fires in accordance with the Minister of Agriculture (MOA) Regulation No.4 of 2002 concerning environmental damage and or pollution control, which is related to MOA No.5 of 2018.
"We are taking steps to prevent forest and land fires by forming Fire-Concern Farmers Group (KTPA) to help guard and secure the land, routine patrol at the location according to the plantation business permit we have," he said.
In addition, conducting socialization and appeals using banners, and pamphlets to communities around the company's land, as well as to company employees to actively prevent forest and land fires.

The MoU was signed by Head of GAPKI South Kalimantan Eddy S Binti and Head of South Kalimantan Police's Operations Bureau Sr Comr Isdiyono.
South Kalimantan Provincial Police Chief Insp.Gen. Nico Afinta expressed his appreciation for every positive initiative, in order to create regional security in South Kalimantan.
“For the sake of optimizing the prevention of forest and land fires, oil palm companies can certainly make a maximum contribution thus the public interest is protected," he said.
