Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Governor Rudy Ariffin said South Kalimantan is ready to face era of free trade by strengthening people's economy ahead of the ASEAN Economic Community imposed as early as 2015.


After opening the "South Kalimantan Expo" 2014 at Murjani Field, Banjarbaru City on Friday, he said the era of free trade makes the economy harder in competition. Freedom of movement of goods, services and labor in the ASEAN level raises an open competition in the marketing of various economy products.

"Therefore, South Kalimantan ready to strengthen the economic sectors of its owned primarily superior product, so as to compete with other local products and foreign products in ASEAN," he said.

According to him, the local dependence on commodities especially from overseas should be reduced, so that the local economy is more robust in facing national and global economic developments.

"Steps to be taken is to increase the economic value of some commodities and regions should establish more downstream industries, so that more and more products to be marketed," he said.

Another step, through improving the quality of domestic industry and building sectors of agriculture, plantation, animal husbandry and fishery using more advanced technology.

He said, the exhibition also become more innovating spirit booster in the economic development of South Kalimantan for various products are not just seen and purchased but encourage people to be alert to opportunities.
