Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Director of Disaster Prevention and Control (P2B) Directorate General of Public Administration Ministry of Interior Nugroho expressed that government through related agencies continue to perform control of zoonotic diseases from animals to humans.


According to Nugroho in Banjarmasin on Tuesday, controls include the establishment of the Commission for Control of Zoonoses in each district or city.

Regional Disaster Management Agency of South Kalimantan, he said, should immediately establish a Commission of Control of Zoonoses in each district and city in South Kalimantan.

Zoonosis control is considered important because many diseases of animal origin begin attacking humans, so it needs immediate treatment.

"With the special commission, zoonosis control can be done with a more integrated and coordinated, not only across sectors and district or city, but also within the framework of national zoonoses control," he said.

Zoonoses are diseases transmitted from animals to humans or vice versa, such as rabies, anthrax and bird flu which can lead to death in humans, if not immediately addressed quickly and appropriately.

In addition, Nugroho added, although the case of bird flu with the H7N9 virus has not been found in Indonesia, the government needs to beware, lest be zoonotic outbreaks.

"It required a special commission, so every case zoonosis found handling can be done," he said.

The threat of zoonoses in the world in general and Indonesia in particular, tends to increase and the implications for social, economic, safety, and welfare of the people.

Anticipating this, the government has issued Presidential Regulation No. 30 Year 2011 About the Zoonosis Control, set on May 20, 2011.
