The North Hulu Sungai (HSU) government's capability in developing its potential of swamps seems to entice the North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, to conduct a study here.
Whereas the district is the prospective of the Indonesia new capital prepared by President Joko Widodo. Then what attracted the attention of the North Penajam Paser on development in HSU?
"We see quite good development acceleration in the HSU in agriculture, service, trade, and other developments," said North Penajam Paser Regent Expert Pamalisa in Amuntai recently.
The second youngest regency in East Kalimantan, North Penajam Paser, which is a result of the partition of Pasir District, has its most population earn a living in agriculture, fisheries, trade, and services. They have many similarities with the livelihood in HSU.
Pamalisa pointed out that the district government wanted to take the better side of development in HSU that could be adopted because of their similarities.
The delegation of the North Penajam Paser was welcomed by HSU's First Assistant for Government and Public Welfare Ir Sopomo in the company of Acting Head of Health Office Agus Fidliansyah, Head of Youth, Sport, and Tourism Office Fajeri Ripani, and Acting Head of Education Office Junaidi Gunawan.
In their face-to-face meeting, they shared experience and information intently in the meeting room of the HSU Regional Secretariat.
First Assistant Supomo was grateful for the trust of North Penajam Paser government to choose HSU for their study in the effort to accelerate the development.
"It is even more proud because the North Penajam Paser region is mostly included in the development zone of the new Indonesia's capital," Supomo said.
He said, the mission of HSU District is to realize the prosperous swampland toward a prosperous, independent, and Islamic community with its vision the HSU MANTAP, which is the acronym of forward, independent, propsperous, religious, and productive.
Under the leadership of Regent H Abdul Wahid HK and Deputy Regent H Husairi Abdi Lc, the priority of development is put on education, health, service, trade, and infrastructure.
The HSU government seeks to turn its natural resources condition of swampland into the district superiority by developing suitable sectors, such as agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, and handicraft.
HSU which previously was an underdeveloped district has successfully got rid off the status by boosting the potential of 89 percent of its swampland.
"All the advantage and disadvantagee depend on the community to explore the potential of swamps which if utilize properly will continue to improve their welfare," he explained.
The development in agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, service, trade, including MSMEs has also succeded in creating jobs and reducing unemployment.
