Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Banjar District is now going toward self-sufficient energy thanks to good waste management and prudent to implement waste management programs "sanitary landfill".


Regent Banjar Sultan H Khairul Saleh here on Thursday said the final waste disposal (TPA) Padang Panjang in Banjar District is a national best.

"We have built a methane village where the energy is derived from landfill (TPA). We flush gases into houses located around the landfill for free," said the regent.

Efforts are made, in addition to utilize waste into something more useful, as well as the government's efforts to reach Adipura targets.

For two consecutive years, Banjar District successfully obtained Adipura award, after all stakeholders, including the community, work together to make improvements in all areas, especially the improvement of environmental quality.

Banjar District PKK Chairman Raudatul Jannah said, the TPA far from being dirty and smelly.

Because, she added, the landfill managed care for the environment, not merely as a place of final discharge, but also as community residences and for growth and development of children.

"Landfill Padang Panjang suitable for children who want to learn about environment and energy. No dirty and smelly impression in Padang Panjang landfill," she said.

Head of Banjar Housing and Settlement Agency Boyke W Triestiyanto revealed, Padang Panjang landfill has been operating since 2002. It has an area of ​​16.5 hectares and in 2014 implements sanitary landfill waste management system.

Waste that goes to the landfill reaches 150-170 cubic meters or 75-85 tons per day. To reduce the volume of waste it applied 3R (reduce-reuse-recycle) program.

One of the benefits for community is in the form of methane gas that is piped into their houses to fuel (flaring) and for electricity generators or PJU.

"The next, we will also build solar panels to supply additional electrical energy, in addition to generators of methane gas. It's An energy-independent step," he said.
