Elementary School Students Visit Waste

Martapura, 30/5 (Antaranews, S Kalimantan) - Dozens of elementary school students visited the waste final processing (TPA) in Padang Panjang Village, Banjar District, South Kalimantan.

Accompanied by teachers, their arrival to the location on Thursday, making landfill operators surprised, so theydid not get to prepare for the reception. "We were surprised by a sudden visit, so did not get to prepare yet, for example by preparing beans and corn on the cob prepared from methane gas from the waste," said TPA Chief Administrative Adi Winoto.

One of the accompanying teachers Nur Hayani said the presence of the students to the site to see the direct management of landfill waste produces methane gas that can be a source of electrical energy and fuel.

"We want the kids to know how to manage the waste into methane gas, from an early age so that they know the proper waste management, so as to become electrical energy and fuel," she said.

After hearing and seeing immediate landfill operations, the children and teachers are very happy because it seems to not go to the landfill that full of junk, but it is like a playground.

"It's  a nice place full with fruit trees and shade. Additionally, no need to cover your nose or wear a mask because the trash does not smell so kids love visiting the landfill," she said.

TPA Chief Administrative said, every day activities at the landfill is managing waste from both the organic and inorganic waste to be processed using the sanitary landfill system.
