Mayor Nadjmi Adhani asked, the incident of forcibly taking away COVID-19 dead body from hospital not to happen in Banjarbaru as in other regions in Indonesia. 

"We ask if a patient dies in a hospital suspected to be positive for COVID-19, there should not be forced taking as in other areas," he said to Antara in Banjarbaru, Saturday. 

He pointed out that every patient being treated in the hospital, especially indicated by coronavirus, will undergo medical treatment according to COVID-19 protocol. Then, if the patient dies, will be treated according to the protocol. 

Nadjmi, who is chief of the Banjarbaru Task Force for Acceleration Handling of COVID-19, said that the hospital is responsible for the process of handling the corpse indicated by COVID-19. 

"In accordance with the procedure, the patient indicated by COVID-19 to be rapidly tested, and swab tested. If the patient dies, while the results of the test have not come out yet, the handling of the body should follow the COVID-19 protocol without exception," he said. 

The family of the patient is expected to sincerely accept, if the patient is buried according to COVID-19 protocol, and not to take any actions that are harmful and illegal.

To anticipate undesirable things, he asked hospitals not to give permission to the release of a body indicated of COVID-19, so as not to impact the onset of public unrest.

"We have also coordinated with the Military Commander (Dandim) of 1006/Mtp if undesirable things happen. The point is, do not let the forced taking away of bodies as in other areas to occur in Banjarbaru," the mayor stressed. 

Previously, a number case of snatching dead bodies of COVID-19 patients happened in several regions in Indonesia, including in Sulawesi, Java, till West Nusa Tenggara.
