Mayor of Banjarbaru Nadjmi Adhani allowed places of worship to resume operational by implementing health protocol to avoid transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
"We give operational permits to places of worship, but health protocol must be implemented to avoid transmission of COVID-19," he said in Banjarbaru, Wednesday.
According to the mayor, the policy in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic was taken after holding a meeting, and at the same time asking for input from, various related elements discussing health protocol in places of worship.
The meeting on Wednesday was attended by the city's Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), members of Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB), Muhammadiyah, NU, and the Indonesian Mosque Council.
"The policy was taken to refer to the circular of Religious Affairs Minister related to health protocol that must be implemented in places of worship, so we can prevent transmission of coronavirus," he said.

The operational permits for places of worship took effect in mosques, churches, and other places of worship, including Friday Prayer and Christian worship on Sunday by prioritizing health protocol.

"Health protocol must be implemented in places of worship, such as wearing masks, providing a facility to wash hands and soap, keep distance, and not to make a crowd around the places of worship," he explained.
Even though the operational of worship places are allowed, but it be evaluated to see if transmission occur. If case increasing found, then operation can be stopped.
"We all pray that the spread and transmission of COVID-19 to end, so we perform worship in calm, smoothly to do business and doing our daily activities without being haunted by fears of infection with the coronavirus," he said.
