President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on Indonesian ministries and the Task Force for Acceleration of COVID-19 Handling to give specific attention to the spread of COVID-19 in East Java, South Sulawesi, and South Kalimantan.

The request was made on account of the high number of coronavirus cases registered in the three provinces.

"I want the Task Force, ministries, military force, and police force to concentrate on the three provinces, with high number of cases," the president stated whilst opening the virtual limited cabinet meeting from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Thursday.

The head of state led the limited meeting on the acceleration of handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, in which the participants comprised Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, cabinet ministers, and Chairman of the Task Force Doni Monardo.

Jokowi also stressed on conducting more aggressive close contact tracing of patients exposed to COVID-19 by utilizing the information technology infrastructure.

"Thus, tracking can be monitored properly instead of resorting to conventional measures," the president emphasized.

The Task Force's data has indicated a continued rise in the rate of COVID-19 transmission in East Java, South Sulawesi, and South Kalimantan on a daily basis.

Until Wednesday, June 3, an additional 183 COVID-19 positive patients were recorded in East Java, thereby bringing the total to 5,318 COVID-19 cases.

South Sulawesi recorded 38 new positive cases, with the total COVID-19 positive patients reaching 1,668.

Meanwhile, 64 new infections were recorded in South Kalimantan, with the total number of COVID-19 positive patients reaching 1,033.
