Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) offers a concept of optimization and acceleration of agriculture after reviewing agricultural land in Barito Kuala (Batola), South Kalimantan, Saturday (May 16, 2020).

“After seeing in the field, what the governor and regent had done, it seems that South Kalimantan has around 300.000-hectare agriculture land capable of being relied on to be part of national food security,” he remarked before Governor H Sahbirin Noor, Provincial Police Chief Insp.Gen. Nico Afinta, Commander of 101/Antasari Military Command Col.Inf.Firmansyah, Batola Regent Hj Noormiliyani AS, Forkopimda, and related officials.

Syahrul assessed agricultural conditions in Batola were quite adequate and very promising.

He hoped to immediately make an agreement on the concept of optimization and cultivation as well, at least starting the next harvest.

“Later we will make an agreement with a shared concept from the central, provincial, and district. I also agree to put two, three, or four professors to help make the concept,” he said.

Through the concept of optimization, he hoped, the agriculture yield will be larger than what has been achieved so far. Especially agriculture here also applies intercropping patterns, such as oranges, vegetables, and others that can increase farmers' income.

Meanwhile, Governor H Sahbirin Noor said, in the last five years rice production in South Kalimantan has never been less than two million tons, thus it always surplus.

Nationally, South Kalimantan ranks 10th out of 22 rice buffer provinces, although the area is the smallest in Kalimantan.

All that can be achieved, he said, thanks to the hard work and seriousness of farmers in managing rice fields and thanks to the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, including the Serasi (save Swampland to Prosper Farmers) Program that is being run.

The visit of the minister was filled with the delivery assistance, including automatic combine harvester, superior rice seedling to Karya Indah Karang Indah Farmers Group, and a hand tractor to UPJA Amanah of Karang Indah Village.

After visiting Karang Indah Village, Mandastana sub-district, minister, and his entourage continued to review agriculture land and meeting farmers group in Manarap Baru Village, Kertak Hanyar Sub-district, Banjar.
