The Banjarmasin Lotus Community (KTB) chaired by Nurul Aulia Badar took their inaugural action of mass lotus planting in the pool area of the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Banjarmasin, Sunday (March 8, 2020) afternoon.


Dozen of members plunged into the pool. But before planting, they took lotus seedlings from various location using Tossa tricycle. They brought lotus both with red and white flowers, then right away to the location not to let them dried up.

Aulia Badar was delighted to see the enthusiasm of the community members planting in an effort to beautify the ULM in its green open space area.

Aulia Badar, who is also the head of the South Kalimantan Bureau of Antara News Agency (LKBN Antara), felt optimistic that the community will move forward to make Banjarmasin more beautiful with colorful lotus flowers.

"We will continue to plant, not only in ULM but in other locations, so all other (pool and) river areas become beautiful with lotus plants," he said.

While Mohamad Ary, the coach of KTB, who is also the mentor of Forum Komunitas Hijau (the Green Community Forum), saw the seriousness of the KTB to beautify the ULM, saying the lotus would be a lure for other biotas to live in this location.

Prof Dwi Atomono, the ULM senior lecturer, said he was happy about the community's involvement in beautifying ULM. He said in the future the community assistance is still needed in other locations those still empty of lotus.

"I will later invite the community to beautify othed ponds with lotus. Later I will involve students in action," said Dwi Atomono, who popularly known as Kang Mono.
