The Class IIB Barabai Correctional House (Rutan), although have been built for tens of year, has not been equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems yet so far. 


"We admit, there is no CCTV camera in Barabai Prison, although it is very important as a mean of supporting security," said the prison warden Syech Walid when he was interviewed, Thursday (Jan 30, 2020).

Meanwhile, the correctional house, which is now inhabited by 245 inmates, has only four teams of security guards. Each team consisted of six members who took a shifting turn to guard.

"Because of the limited number of officers, CCTV is urgently needed to be installed in vulnerable points to monitor the 245 prisoners," he pointed out.

Walid acknowledged that the prison is now being overloaded. As it should only able to accommodate 109 people, in fact, the number of prisoners reached 245 or more than double the capacity.

Now his party is waiting for the Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District government to assist with the CCTV, as it has been proposed before. "Anyhow the occupants of the correctional house are HST residents," he said.
 
He also admitted that the correctional house lacking in health facilities. There is only one nurse, but no doctor on duty here.

"We don't have ambulance either if at any time or in an emergency condition we have to deliver inmate who sicks and needs to be taken to the hospital," he said.
