Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Dozens of hectares of banana plants in Tanjung Slayar, Kotabaru District, attacked by long-tailed monkeys colony (Macaca fascicularis).

"Bananas plant which begin to produce is now damaged due to plagued by monkeys colony," said Member of Commission I DPRD Kotabaru, Zulkipli, here on Thursday.

Residents who have long relied on income from the banana gardening fret, because their income drop dramatically after the plague.

Residents tried to repel a variety of ways, such as installing a trap, but these efforts have not yielded maximum results. Banana plantation with different types of  superior bananas are nonetheless marred by a colony of  monkeys that come from forests around.

Most farmers who can not control the monkey attack , forced to try to catch a fish to meet their daily needs.

That residents are now getting restless. Zulkifli expect relevant agencies in Kotabaru can help to exterminate or 
repel monkeys that has been damaging the crops.

The same thing has also been felt by the people in the subdistrict of Pulau Sembilan, Kotabaru. Plantations in the village of Labuan Barat and Teluk Sungai, Maradapan Island, Pulau Sembilan subdistrict, attacked by hundreds of monkeys which resulted their harvest reduced drastically.
