Warukin Airport in the District of Tabalong finally serves general flights by cooperating with more airlines.

The Tabalong Acting Head of Transportation Agency Zulfan Noor announced this at the Airlines Gathering and Commercializatio of Warukin Airport, Tuesday (Nov 226, 2019). 

"The permit to serve public flights in contained in the Decree of Minister of Transportation No.223 Year 2019," he stated.

The facility then would not only be taken advantage of by the people of Tabalong, but the potential passengers from neighboring districts, such as North Hulu Sungai (HSU), Balangan, and others in South Kalimantan, East Barito (Central Kalimantan), and Paser (East Kalimantan) as well.

The Regent of Tabalong Anang Syakhfiani remarked the public interest will be extraordinary if Warukin Airport could provide more flight routes.

Furthermore, the Tabalong District Government offers a number of routes, including to Banjarmasin, Balikpapan, Surabaya, Samarinda, Kotabaru, Makassar and Yogyakarta.

“The potential of passengers will be bigger if it could serve public flights with many routes," Anang pointed out.

Especially, if it build a cooperation with a company who has thousands of employees and some from outside Kalimantan.

Separately, Area Manager of Lion Air for South and Central Kalimantan Agung Purnama said his company will make direct observation to Warukin Airport.
 
"The safety factors must be in accordance with our procedures. In addition we need to look its market share, including observation of more potential routes," Agung explained.

He said the fleet is available and the next will be reporting to Lion Air central office. According to him, the bigger chance would be the route of Warukin-Banjarmasin, which then to be continued with other destinations.

Currently, Warukin Airport has two flight routes conducted by Pelita Air Service, namely Warukin-Muara Teweh (Central Kalimantan), and Warukin-Halim Perdana Kusuma (Jakarta).
