The Regent of Tapin HM Arifin Arpan together with farmers harvested shallots in the Suato Lama Village, Salam Babaris Sub-district, Tapin.
He said, the harvest this year was not satisfactory because of the weather condition quite extreme heat. "Conditions are to hot, thus the yields of shallots this year are unsatisfactory," he pointed out.
Whereas shallot, he explained, really need sufficient water to produce good and satisfying yields.
"Dry season this year is quite extreme, until we have lack of water availability, and irrigation has also dried up," he remarked.

To anticipate the same thing in the future, the regent tried to build artesian well the community could use for farming and other needs.
"In the future we can build artesian well, through CSR fund from companies in Tapin," he said.

Tapin District in 2019 is targeting 54 hectares of planting to development of shallot agriculture.
"This year we focus on meeting the local market first," he said.

Meanwhile, Margiman, a shallot farmer in Suato Lama Village, said this year he planted 2 hectares of shallot. "We only plant 2 hectares of shallot this year, maybe in the next ten days we will be able to harvest," he said.
The farmers here hoped the yields of their shallots this year would be satisfactory and to be absorbed by the market.
