After South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor planted and harvested rice at the former World Food Day commemoration land in the Jejangkit Muara Village, now the Regent of Barito Kuala Hj Noormiliyani AS did the same on Monday (Sept 30, 2019).

The regent was happy and proud as the harvest at the 5 hectares land of Karya Membangun Farmers Group with a type of superior rice Inpara 2 turned out to yield quite satisfying result of about 5 tons each hectare.

She thanked and appreciated farmers, local residents, central and provincial government as well for caring, attention, assistance, and guidance, in the effort of increasing the productivity of rice in the district.

According to Noormiliyani, Barito Kuala (Batola) has 101,249 hectares of functional paddy field that is able to contribute an average of 17-20 percent of the province rice production. It has adaptive local varieties of rice varieties such as siam unus, siam mayang, siam palun, siam gaul, siam runut and others, also adaptive superior varieties such as inpara 2, inpara 3, inpari 30, inpari 32, and margasari.

Head of Agriculture Agency Murniati said the harvested rice was a superior rice development program funded by the district budget covering an area of 120 hectares. It applied integrated agricultural management technology by minimizing the use of inorganic fertilizers and chemical pesticides and without the use of lime.

Beside harvesting, Noormiliyani together with deputies speaker of DPRD Agung Purnomo and Hj Arpah, Commander of 1005 Marabahan Military Command Lt.Col. Cav. Sugianto SE, and other members of Forkopimda (Regional Leaders Coordinating Forum), heads of agencies, Jejangkit Sub-district Head Mujiburrahman and wife, and members of Forkopimcam spread rice seeds, freshwater catfish seeds at the area of local agriculture.
