Representatives from three countries in the heart of Kalimantan discussed efforts to fulfill the rights of indigenous peoples in seminars and annual meetings of the Heart of Borneo Indigenous Peoples Forum (Forma HOB) which took place from 21 to 22 August 2019 in Putussibau, the capital of the Kapuas Hulu District, West Kalimantan.


Representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam also discussed matters relating to plantation, forestry, mining, development and conservation activities, said head of the organizing committee Herkulanus Sutomo Manna here on Wednesday.


West Kalimantan Forma HOB Chief Markus said indigenous people living in the heart of Kalimantan must be able to live prosperously and be involved in economic, development and conservation activities.

"We from Forma HOB are facilitating various community activities in the heartland of Borneo and are currently jointly fighting for the rights of indigenous peoples," he said.

Acting Head of the Kapuas Hulu Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) Budi Prasetyo expected the seminars and annual meetings to produce work program plans to fulfill rights and involve indigenous peoples in development.

"There must be a synergy of all parties so what they want to achieve in the struggle for community rights can be realized for the sake of development progress in the heartland of Borneo," Budi said.

"It needs mapping (to know) what are the needs of indigenous peoples and it needs synergy of all parties," he added.

Meanwhile, the President of Sarawak Malaysia Dayak National Congress (DNC) Paul Raja insisted the importance of fighting for the fulfillment of the rights of indigenous peoples in the heart of Borneo until they could live more prosperously.
