Banjarbaru, (Antaranews South Kalimantan) - A total of 25,848 Regional Water Company Intan Banjar customers would be difficult to get clean water because of maintenance of Riam Kanan irrigation canals, the main source of the company's raw water.

"There is maintenance of irrigation canals, so that the processing of raw water which has been relying on water from irrigation canals is compromised," said Engineering Director of PDAM Intan Banjar Harmadi Budi Santoso in Banjarbaru on Friday.

He said, tens of thousands of customers who would have difficulty to get  clean water spread across the main zone includes three sub-districts in the district Banjarbaru, namely North and South Banjarbaru as well as the sub-District Cempaka, whereas in Banjar district is sub-District Martapura City and the East Martapura.

Maintenance of irrigation canals to inhibit the growth of weeds implemented by Directorate General of Water Resources of Public Work Ministery  (MPW) through South Kalimantan Provincial Public Works Agency.

Maintenance  by lowering the water level in order to facilitate retrieval of weeds in irrigation canals is a routine activity MPW scheduled once every two months.

"The growth of weeds in the irrigation channel so fast that performed routine maintenance once every two months which is implemented the Ministry of Public Works through South Kalimantan with Banjar Public Works Agency," he said.

He expects, water levels in irrigation channels usually reaches one meter can be maintained as high as 80 centimeters, so the IPA II Pinus  engine can still process  water. If it then operate under , the engine has to be stop.
