The South Hulu Sungai (HSS) Manpower, Cooperatives, Small Business and Industry Agency (Disnakerkop UKP) held a training to develop coconut stems into high-value furniture.

HSS Deputy Regent Syamsuri Arsyad in Kandangan, Monday (7/15), said the district government welcomed the implementation of the event which was attended by 20 participants.

"This is an encouragement for us to open jobs in HSS, especially the labor force in HSS is quite high," he said when opening training in the agency's hall.

He remarked this was one part of the mission and vision of the HSS Regency. He hopes this activity can be part of the icon in HSS because most of the coconut stems in the district are carried out.

With this training, citizens can process it themselves and most importantly marketing so as not to produce it but there are no buyers. Especially in HSS coconut resources are very abundant.

Head of the Agro-Industry of South Kalimantan Industry Agency Muhammad Hasanuddin said this activity aims to provide insight and knowledge in the furniture industry to be able to be creative.

"So far, most coconut trees are only used as little as possible, such as for bridges, house wood. Now we want to change this mindset, so that coconut trees can be used as handicrafts with high economic value, automatically the price will increase rather than sold normally," he said.
