The DPRD South Kalimantan's Commission III overseeing environment went to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) in Jakarta to consult about the quality of river water in the province which has been contimated with various waste of industry and domestics.


"We need to consult about our rivers with the ministry to cope with the problems," said the commission secretary H Riswandi SIP before leaving for consultation, Tuesday (9/7).

The problems are, he pointed out, our rivers are contaminated with industrial waste, mining activities, and many others.

He gave an example, mercury or heavy metal from mining or industry will cause physical deformity or even death.

While human waste, such as feces, as a result of floating latrines which still widely in almost all districts in South Kalimantan.

Whereas river water in the province, which now has a population of four million, is still a source of raw water for consumption, especially by some residents who live along the riverside.

"In consultation with the Ministry of LHK, we also discuss plans to revise regional regulations (Perda) relating to pollution or river management," said Riswandi, who no longer runs for legislative in the 2019 election.
