Around 600 local languages from various races in South Kalimantan are proposed to be the national language of the Republic of Indonesia in 2019.


The young researcher at the South Kalimantan Balai Bahasa (Language Center) Musalipah at the Discussion on Mass Media Language Usage Group held at the Banjarmasin Indonesia Hotel on Monday (24/6) stated that every year the center continues to propose local languages to the National Balai Bahasa.

"This year, approximately 600 local languages have been collected and have been proposed to become national languages," she said.

According to her, the local languages will be the study of the National Language Center to be approved as a national language.

In South Kalimantan, said Musdalipah, there are many local languages, including the Banjar language, Dayak language and Bakumpai language.

According to him, there have been more than 100 languages of South Kalimantan since 2005 becoming national languages.

"Even (the word) mandai, which is food from the fermented cempedak skin, is already in Indonesian," she said.

Head of the South Kalimantan Language Center, Imam Budi Utomo, said that all communities can submit regional languages to be proposed to become national languages.
