Press Freedom Index in Indonesia in recent years is still relatively low, said Vice Chairman Press Council of the Inter-Institutional and on Foreign Relations, Bekti Nugroho.
"In 2001, the Press Freedom Index in Indonesia best in Asia, but down in a few years," he said when socializing protection of press freedom, in Banjarmasin, Thursday.
"Even in 2011, IKP in Indonesia at number 146 of 178 countries or under the Congo ranks 145," he said accompanied by the Vice Chairman of the Press Council Bambang Harymurti.
Socialization was in the form of delivery of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Press Council by the Chief of Police and the Press Council by the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia.
According to him, the low IKP in Indonesia, probably because there was still violence in the world press, as recorded on the Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Press in 2010 as many as 66 cases.
Then in 2011 recorded 96 cases of violence and increased to 98 cases in 2012. It means that there was a violence in every week in the world press.
