Tanjung, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Tabalong Creative Group conducted educational tours to Edi Susapto's organic vegetable garden in Kambitin Village, Tanjung Sub-district.
"Through this educational tour, children know how to plant and care for it and how to overcome the attack of organic vegetable pests," Sapto said.
He explained the method is environmentally friendly without using pesticides or chemical fertilizers in growing organic vegetables.
"Absolutely no chemicals," he said
On an area of approximately 1.5 hectares of agricultural land, Sapto invited children to get around to recognize a number of vegetables grown there. Water spinach, spinach, mustard greens, corn and tomatoes thrive without using chemical fertilizers.
Members of this creative group are taught how to cultivate land, sow seeds till picking organic vegetables.
They also introduced various benefits of vegetables for human health, especially organic vegetables because they are free from pesticides.
Sapto's introduction to organic farming began at the end of 2017 through the Adaro Bangun Negeri Foundation (YABN) organic-based partnership program. YABN sought to insert organic ideas to shift farmers 'dependence on chemicals and encourage farmers' independence.
A month after receiving assistance, Sapto began the experimental phase in his field.
Urine cow was his main weapon for fertilizing the soil, gadung - tuberplants - extracted from the sap as a natural pesticide.
"If you use chemicals, time to pick long beans is usually once every two days. While organic, every day is picked, if left the size continues to grow," he pointed out the results.
Likewise handling pests. When using chemical pesticides, pests do die, as soon as they reproduce. But natural pesticides process. Pest did not die instantly, but his life chain was cut off.
Now Sapto and organic farming are like two things that cannot be separated from each other.
Through this educational tour, more and more children and visitors can understand how to farm organic and the benefits of free vegetable chemicals for health.
"My garden has become more famous as a vehicle for education on how to grow organic vegetables," Sapto told.
