Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Banjarmasin Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD-Banjarmasin) urges all residents to always clean drainage channels in their respective neighborhoods until no much water inundation when the rain comes.


"Today, the city of Banjarmasin is raining continuously and almost everywhere in the city is flooded above the ankles of adults," said Acting Head of BPBD Banjarmasin Drs. H Muhammad Hilmi MM, Saturday.

He said, all relevant agencies and elements of the community must maintain the area where they live by cleaning drainage from rubbish that can hamper the flow of water into the river.

In addition, the community is expected not to dispose of litter, especially plastic waste that can clog the drainage in their respective environment.

"This plastic waste can clog the flow of water in the drainage, so it will not runs smoothly," he said.

The Acting Head of the BPBD also said that at this time his party was in the field and was monitoring which areas were inundated due to rain.

"Not only does the puddle occur on the road but it has entered into people's homes in several areas of the city," said the man who was familiar with the media crew.

He also asked the City Government to require housing developers to comply with the Stage House Regulation and related agencies must always supervise the housing construction.

"Keep an eye on housing development carried out by developers if they violate the Stage House Regulation, so this must be taken firmly for the sake of the comfort of our environment as well," he said.

He also requested the Public Works and Public Housing Agency (PUPR) must immediately implement a normalization and dredging program of existing rivers in the city of Banjarmasin.

"Many rivers are not functioning and the river is shallow, so it is necessary to immediately do normalization and dredging," he said. Gunawan Wibisono
