Barabai, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Barabai River overflowed and washed away wood and bamboo trash and was choked up at the Siring Joewita bridge construction project causing the iron pipe to break in the river.
Combined officers from yellow troops, Tagana (Disaster Response Team), BPBD (Disaster Mitigation Agency), Combined Firefighters, SAR, TNI, Polri, and surrounding communities jumped into the river shoulder to shoulder cleaning up piles of wood and garbage from night to afternoon, Tuesday (1/22).
Local resident Agus explained the garbage and bamboo clumps had filled the river since sunset. "Big trees hang up in the bridge project pipeline in the middle of the river make garbage unable to drift, so they accumulated," he said.
According to him, if it is not immediately cleaned up it is afraid can hit several houses on the edge of the river.
A member of the TNI from the 1002 Barabai District Military Command, Second Sergeant (Serda) Abdul Wahid, who joined the group, said the garbage piles of bamboo and trunk blocked by an iron pipe that would be used for bridge construction.
"So we together with residents and related agencies directly clean until the flow back to normal to avoid floods," he said.
