According to him, these disasters have been anticipated, so that certain measures are prepared at certain times.
In addition, he said, the District Government of Barito Kuala (Batola) continued to mobilize the community in handling a disaster.
The regional secretary who concurrently is the head of the local Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) said one of the areas frequently affected by land fires and flood is the Jejangkit Sub-district.
Thankfully, he explained, the region is currently being used by the Ministry of Agriculture as productive swamp farming land which is thought to have an impact on reducing the risk of land fires.
Another positive impact is as a swamp farming, Supriyono said, can avoid floods that hit the local area every year.
He said, the peak of the land fires that hit Batola took place around 2015, but in 2016 and 2017 it could be overcome.
In fact, he said, in 2018 it was believed that forest and land fires (karhutla) in Batola could be anticipated.
