It is time for a wakaf bank to be established in South Kalimantan, so that the existing wakaf potential can be developed and utilized more optimally for the benefit of the people,
Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - General Secretary of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) South Kalimantan Fadly Mansoer said the province ideally has a wakaf bank.


According to Mansoer, the people of South Kalimantan are known as benefactors and like to donate their property, whether moving or not moving property for the benefit of the people.

This, he remarked, is very potential for the development of sharia economy as an effort to improve the welfare of people, especially the less fortunate in this area.

Unfortunately, he added, to date in South Kalimantan, even in Kalimantan though, there is no wakaf bank to manage the potential of existing wakaf, for maximizing the utilization.

"It is time for a wakaf bank to be established in South Kalimantan, so that the existing wakaf potential can be developed and utilized more optimally for the benefit of the people," he said in Banjarmasin on Tuesday.

Based on the site "mysharing" wakaf bank is a bank whose shareholders are not individuals but mass organizations ranging from Nahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, ICMI and MUI. In addition, the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI), National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas), and others.

The mass organizations will then transfer the shares to the wakaf bank. But the source of mass funds is not from their organization's funds, but from the collected wakaf.

The mass organizations receive wakaf funds from wakif (donor) so the wakaf bank shareholder is acting as nazhir waqf fund manager.

This wakaf bank, will then channel funds to small communities who are entitled to receive, for business development and others.

Previously, Bank Indonesia held a dialogue with South Kalimantan clerics, to socialize about wise expenditure programs and dialogue on efforts to develop sharia economy.

Bank Indonesia predicts that the sharia economy and industry has great potential to become the center of new economic growth in South Kalimantan.

Head of Representative Office of Bank Indonesia South Kalimantan Herawanto said, based on data collected by Bank Indonesia South Kalimantan, there are
several potential that can encourage the growth of sharia economy.

The potential are, among others, 96.7 percent of South Kalimantan's population is Muslim, in addition, in this area there are also 242 pesantren, and some religious activities held in this area, always attract interest, not only the people of South Kalimantan, but also outside the province even to foreign countries.

This potential, also supported by the cultural history of South Kalimantan's economy, which has always been implementing sharia trade transactions.
