Banjarbaru, March 25 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Social Minister Idrus Marham said community empowerment is one of ways to prevent poverty and is believed to reduce poverty in Indonesia.


"We assess the community empowerment will be able to prevent and reduce poverty so that the concept should be run," said Minister of Social Affairs in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, on Sunday.

Social Minister, after visiting the Center for Social Welfare Education and Research (BPPKS) Regional IV Kalimantan of the Ministry of Social Affairs in Banjarbaru, said poverty should be addressed through the concept of empowerment and the ministry has an instrument to help the poor to get out of poverty.

Ministry, he said, is ready to help the poor who have creativity to make them more productive. "Poor people who have creativity are helped, so they can further develop their business and be free from poverty while reducing the burden of the government," he said.

The concept of empowerment is believed to slowly but surely can prevent and reduce the poor population in Indonesia which numbered 26,580 people.

"We believe that poverty is slow but certainly can be derived from the concept of empowerment plus programs inspired by President Joko Widodo and has been effectively implemented," he said.

The ongoing Presidential program includes Family Hope Program (PKH), social assistance, and prosperous rice program (Rastra) for poor and underprivileged families.

"Including non-cash food aid given in the form of food, so that parents no longer think about family food but education for their children," he said.

The Minister of Social Affairs visit to BPPKS to stay in touch with the leaders and staff of the office including social workers who are under the Ministry of Social Affairs to encourage their performance.
