"Entering the end of 2017, educators, especially of pre-school level, namely Early Childhood Education (PAUD), Kindergarten (TK) and Primary School (SD) are still many undergraduates,
Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Based on academic qualifications, approximately 30 percent of teachers in South Kalimantan are still not qualified as Strata 1 or undergraduate.
The South Kalimantan education observer and practitioner Ahmad Suriansyah to AntaranewsKalsel on Tuesday expressed his concern as many teachers not yet fulfilled the requirements.
"Entering the end of 2017, educators, especially of pre-school level, namely Early Childhood Education (PAUD), Kindergarten (TK) and Primary School (SD) are still many undergraduates," said the man who often called as Pak Sur.
The 30 percent figure range, said Pak Sur, based on data from the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel (Ditjen GTK) Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia.
Whereas from January 1, 2016 teachers must be S1 (bachelor) degree. Law Number 14/2005 requires teachers to meet academic qualifications, to have a bachelor degree or Diploma IV and certified educator no longer than 10 years since promulgated on December 30, 2005.
"So since January 1, 2016 all teachers in Indonesia must already have a bachelor's or Diploma IV education and have been certified educators. Although actually late, but we still have to finish," explained Chairman of Pre-Teacher Education Program and Primary School (PG-PSD) Teacher Training Faculty and Education Science (FKIP) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM).
Pak Sur admits that some of the undergraduate teachers may have almost retired or do not want to go to college anymore.
Even so, the local government should be brave enough to take a stand to encourage the improvement of teachers' academic qualifications.
"This is a challenge for the local government in South Kalimantan, districts and cities and provinces, because the mandate of the Act can not be delayed and must be implemented," he said.
