Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan 2/7 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Bakarangan Police assisted by local residents arrested a man caught fishing by electric current on Saturday (1/7).
"It is true that we have arrested the perpetrator of illegal fishing in Tangkawang Village," said Tapin Police Chief Adj Sr Comr (AKBP) Zulkifli Ismail through Bakaranangan Police Chief Adj Comr (AKP) Zainal Effendi in Tapin on Sunday.
The perpetrator A (28), a resident of Masta Village, Bakarangan Sub-district, was arrested after a report from Tangkawang and Parigi villagers, due to the uneasiness of illegal fishing activities in their area.
Assisted by the people from both villages, the police immediately carried out the siege and the arrest of the perpetrator who was doing the fish electrocuting.
The perpetrator had tried to escape, but because he was besieged finally secured by members of police who assisted by citizens.
From the arrest, the police managed to secure the evidence, including a basket of fish, one accu, two small bamboo twisted wires, and various types of fish weighing 2kg.
The perpetrator objected to article 85 jo article 9 of RI Law number 45 year 2009 about the change of number 31 year 2004 about fishery premises maximum of 5 year imprisonment and fine of at most Rp2 billion, said police chief.
