Barabai, South Kalimantan (AntaraNewsKalsel) - Flooding in Central Hulu Sungai (HST) feared to cause crop failure, while yields are also submerged.


According to the head HST Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Ali Fahmi, approximately 110 houses, 25 hectares of rice fields and crops were flooded which level as high as 50-70 centimeters in the Cukan Lipai and Tanah Habang Villages in Sub-district of Southern Batang Alai.

"The nearly harvest rice fields were submerged. Yield of harvest not taken to the house also inundated, causing the loss of tens of millions of rupiah," he said.

In Pandawan sub-district, the worst flooding in the Kayu Rabah village. According to local residents it is the worst flood compared to previous years, about 80 hectares of plantation and agriculture affected with water level as high as adult waist.

"Kayu Rabah is the most downstream village in the HST. In addition to rainfall intensity flood also caused by overflowing of Batang Alai rivers near the village," he said.

"We (BPBD) with a joint team already down to the field and is always alert to monitor the flood. Logistic aid already distributed with the Social Agency," he said.
